Senggigi was once Lombok’s oldest and most famous resort area, stretching for many kilometers along the seashore just north of Mataram, the capital. Senggigi was the location of a building frenzy in the late 1990s, when Lombok was hailed as the next Bali. However, community strife in 2000 and the 2002 Bali bombing struck the island hard, with tourist numbers plummeting and several construction projects being canceled. In terms of popularity and development, Senggigi has now slipped behind Kuta Lombok in the south of the island and the northwestern Gili islands.

Senggigi has a number of white sand beaches and safe swimming spots, making it an ideal place to unwind. Surfers will enjoy the waves at the central Senggigi point. This location boasts a vibrant reef that shelters a diversity of marine life and exquisitely shaped coral, making it an excellent snorkeling spot.

During the dry season, the bay has an intriguing diversity of moored boats. Senggigi is a town that stretches for over 10 kilometers along the coast. This road continues north to Bangsal, the Gili Islands’ main harbor.

Swimming is safe off the beach. Here in Senggigi, you may also go kayaking. Pura Batu Bolong, a rocky outcropping south of Senggigi, is worth a visit. Off the point and in the sheltered bay around the headland, there is excellent snorkeling.
