18 May 2022

Today an updated regulation has been published, that fully vaccinated travellers entering into Indonesia from abroad will no longer have to present a negative COVID test result, effective 18th May 22

Reference: Official announcement SATGAS 19

More Very Good news for Bali:

It is getting easier to visit the Island of Gods.

Indonesia will no longer require travellers to present a negative PCR test result that’s taken within 48h before departure – as long as they are fully vaccinated.

President Joko Widodo has announced that this new regulation shall be effective 18th of May. Today the official regulation has been distributed to all relevant government bodies.

Further, the regulation that travellers needed no PCR test who had contracted COVID 30 days before their arrival to Indonesia AND have recovered, is no longer valid.

However, it is important for travellers to always check whether airlines have their own set of regulations, that might be different from the destination’s regulations to avoid surprises at the check-in counter.

Changes in Health Protocol

The latest regulation states also the following:

a. Use a 3-ply cloth mask or medical mask that covers the nose, mouth and chin while indoors or when in crowds;
b. Change masks regularly every four hours, and dispose of waste masks in the places provided;
c. Washing hands regularly using water and soap or hand sanitizer, especially after touching objects touched by other people;
d. Maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 meters from other people and avoid crowds; and
e. It is advised not to speak one-way or two-way by telephone or in person throughout the journey using public transportation modes of land, rail, sea, river, lake, crossing, and air.

In essence, this means that wearing a mask outside and on the scooter is not required anymore.

Making travelling more easy

Over the course of the last couple of months, Indonesia has changed several covid related travel requirements which made the visit to Bali finally possible for many travellers.

Beside lifting the quarantine, the main and crucial step was to allow 60 nationalities to enter into Indonesia on a Visa on Arrival. Since then Bali has seen a drastic increase of tourists coming to the island and is expecting holiday makers to choose Bali again for their Summer Holidays in July and August.

Airlines started to fly to Bali again and the increased ticket prices are clearly indicating that Bali is on high demand.

After two years during which hundreds of thousands of Balinese lost all or a large part of their income sources, the recovering industry is desperately awaited.

24th March 2022

The Indonesian government has once more eased the travel regulations. Just days after 19 more countries have been added to the list of countries that can get a Visa on Arrival, the quarantine regulations have also been adjusted.

In a nutshell:
Fully vaccinated travellers only need to get a PCR test at the airport and remain in their chosen accommodation, until they received a negative test result. No more quarantine. Once you get your negative test result, you can continue with your travel plans.

Good news for Bali: No more mandatory quarantine. No more hotel booking for 3 nights in a certified hotel.

Regulation updates:

Travellers with only one vaccination dose (Johnson & Johnson counts as two – “status fully vaccinated) have to quarantine for 5x24h and get a second PCR test on day 4.

PCR Testing & Results:

  • Present a negative PCR test result when you arrive. Test taken within 2x24h before your departure.
  • Take a mandatory PCR test upon arrival. Taken before you get to the immigration checkpoint at the airport (or harbour). The test can be pre-booked online.

  • Once you receive the negative test result. you can continue with your travel plans freely
  • in case you are positive, and depending on your symptoms, with mild symptoms you will have to self-isolate until you are recovered and get a negative PCR result. If you have severe symptoms you will have to be taken to a government hospital.

  • Jetstar’s first flight to Bali in two years takes off today, as the island welcomes back travellers quarantine free

  •  Recent sale saw highest number of Bali fares sold in five years

  • New campaign launched, partnering with local businesses who have been impacted by tourism halt

Block "17198" not found

More than 260 passengers are set to take off on Jetstar’s first flight to Bali in two years this morning, with travel restrictions for international visitors to the island easing.

Taking off on a Boeing 787 aircraft, this marks the first time Jetstar has flown to Bali since flights were grounded on 26 March 2020.

Since the news the island was reopening to travellers, demand for Bali fares has surged, with Jetstar’s recent Un-Bali-Vable sale featuring $99 fares, driving the highest number of seats sold to Bali in a single day in more than five years.

Jetstar Group CEO Gareth Evans said Bali has always been the most popular international destination in Jetstar’s network, with millions of people flying to the Indonesian island every year before COVID hit.

“We are very excited to return to Bali today after two long years, and we are confident that Bali will quickly regain its position as our most popular international tourist destination now that borders are open.

“Our recent Bali sale saw the biggest surge in bookings we’ve seen since 2016, and our recent surveys have consistently shown that Bali is still the top international destination people want to travel to.

“Pre-COVID, Jetstar operated up to 85 return flights per week to Bali, carrying more than two million customers each year and contributing almost two billion Australian dollars annually to the local Balinese economy.

“Today is an important milestone for us at Jetstar, and also for the local businesses in Bali who have been heavily impacted by the lack of tourism during the pandemic.

“We extend our thanks to the Indonesian Government for their support and look forward to continuing to work together to help the Balinese tourism industry bounce back as quickly as possible.”

As the largest international carrier into Bali, Jetstar has today launched a new campaign which partners with 15 local businesses on the island who have been impacted by the tourism halt over the past two years.

The “To Bali With Love” campaign will see messages of love, support and celebration from Jetstar customers to their favourite venues dotted right across the island, with $100,000 in advertising spend going directly to local businesses.

The messages will be displayed through media that is locally owned, helping to drive income to small Balinese businesses, and will be visible across drinks coasters, surfboards, take-out bags, beach towels, posters and umbrellas.

Jetstar’s flights from Melbourne will initially operate three times weekly, before ramping up in the lead up to Easter. Bali flights from Sydney and Perth are scheduled to recommence in early April, with flights from Brisbane, Adelaide, Cairns and the Gold Coast scheduled for May.

Travellers into Bali are required to meet a number of requirements, as outlined by the Indonesian Government – including vaccination, PCR testing and proof of hotel bookings.

8h March 2022

After much speculation and just days after Indonesia has implemented the Visa on Arrival for 23 countries arriving in Bali, the government has announced new quarantine regulations for Bali (and Batam and Bintan).

The mandatory quarantine in that sense is history, but there are still regulations to follow, even if these are giving travellers much more freedom.

  • confirmed Hotel Booking for 3 nights / 4 days in a government certified hotel (CHSE)
  • first PCR test taken at the airport
  • guests need to wait in their hotel room until they get the result
  • 2nd PCR test on the 3rd day of the stay
  • Other regulations are still in place: fully vaccinated, arrive with a negative PCR test, travel insurance covering covid related expenses

More Good News: Indonesia reduces the quarantine related regulations significantly

Effective 8th of March, Indonesia implements new quarantine regulations and makes travelling to Bali much easier. Of course the hope is, that more travellers will now decide to travel to Bali and the harshly hit tourism industry can gradually recover.

There are still regulations to follow and the Visa on Arrival is only valid for 23 nationalities. But compared to everything that Bali experienced during the last 2 years of the pandemic, this is the first time, that one can remotely say: Bali is open again.

The new quarantine regulations that apply for all nationalities in detail:

  • you need a confirmed Hotel Booking for 3 nights / 4 days in a government certified hotel (CHSE). Some hotels will now offer a carefree “warm-up” package that takes care of everything
  • first PCR test at the airport, we advise to book hotel packages where this this PCR test is already included
  • guests need to wait in their hotel room until they get the result. We are not aware how long this would take, but depending on your time of arrival it can happen same day, or next morning.
  • If the test is negative you can freely enjoy Bali, but you cannot travel onwards to another hotel, particularly not leave Bali and go to Lombok or Java
  • 2nd PCR test on the 3rd day of your stay. Also here we suggest to book a hotel where this is already handled and arranged for you
  • If the second test is negative, you can check out the next day and then go to other hotels or other islands
  • Other regulations are still in place: fully vaccinated, arrive with a negative PCR test, travel insurance covering covid related expenses (some hotels offer packages including an insurance that is accepted).

There are some details that the government has not specified and some travellers might still have some questions. Those details will probably be clarified  in the days to come.

On the 6th of March the Visa on Arrival has been made possible for travellers from following countries, but only if you arrive in Bali. the nationalities listed below can obtain a Visa on Arrival in Bali:

  • Australia
  • USA
  • Canada
  • UK
  • Germany
  • Netherlands
  • France
  • Qatar
  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Italy
  • New Zealand
  • Turkey
  • UAE
  • Malaysia
  • Singapore
  • Brunei
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Laos
  • Myanmar
  • Cambodia
  • Philippines

The Visa on Arrival is valid for 30 days and can be extended once while in Bali. After 60 days you must leave the country, You cannot apply for another onshore visa.

What about the other travellers

If your nationality is not listed above you still need to apply for a Visit Visa B211A. This Visa is valid for 60 days and can be extended up to 4 times (each extension for 30 days).

So if you wish to stay longer than 60 days you need a B211A Visa, even if you could get a Visa on Arrival.

The regulations have been published by the government in SE Satgas No 12 and 13.

New regulations have been announced. Click here for IMPORTANT UPDATES ON THIS TOPIC.

5th March 2022

Major good News for Bali – IF they get confirmed: The governor of Bali is pushing for following travel regulations to be changed

  • allow the Visa on Arrival for 23 countries starting as early as 7th of March.
  • scrap the quarantine in designated hotels, but instead: self-quarantine in hotel for 3 (or 4 nights), and a PCR test on day 3.

However, the central government has not yet confirmed these plans, even though international media outlets are reporting these changes as if they are already confirmed.

Further, and this is CONFIRMED, the quarantine for travellers with now 2 or 3 vaccinations is 3-24h (2 nights / 3 days).

The media has been writing about major upcoming changes in travel regulations

Bapak Wayan Koster, Governor of Bali, has issued several minutes meetings where he announced the plans to re-introduce the Visa on Arrival for 23 countries and also stop the mandatory quarantine requirements as early as 7th of March, some say 16th of March.

However, none of these major changes, that would finally be worthy of saying: “Bali is open again”, are confirmed by the responsible ministries in Jakarta. We are still waiting for an official response, until then the current regulations (B211A Visa and mandatory quarantine in a certified hotel), are in place.

The quarantine hotels, who should be the first to know, so far have not been instructed to change their protocols.

VISA ON ARRIVAL PLANS:

For now, the plan is to allow a visa on Arrival for following countries. THIS WOULD ONLY APPLY FOR TRAVELLERS ARRIVING DIRECTLY IN BALI – not Jakarta or other airports:

  • Australia
  • USA
  • Canada
  • UK
  • Germany
  • Netherlands
  • France
  • Qatar
  • Japan
  • South Korea
  • Italy
  • New Zealand
  • Turkey
  • UAE
  • Malaysia
  • Singapore
  • Brunei
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Laos
  • Myanmar
  • Cambodia
  • Philippines

QUARANTINE CHANGES THAT MIGHT COME:

It is uncertain at this point, what the exact plans are regarding the quarantine regulations. The rumours are, that travellers will have to self-quarantine in a hotel for 3 (or 4) nights. 1st PCR test at the airport and second PCR test on the 3rd day. The hotel will then be able to release the traveller next day, if the test is negative.

How this would be handled in real life so to speak, and if the hotels can manage such a protocol on such a short notice, is unclear. And as it seems, that would still be some sort of quarantine.

Impact on Travel Planning

“Bali” hopes, that any of these new regulations will be implemented soon, so that the tourism industry can gradually recover from the shutdown since March 2020.

For now, travel planning is still difficult for anybody who wants to come, particularly within the next few weeks, because none of these announcements have been confirmed. We expect that more announcements will come soon. If you can wait a bit with your visa and quarantine hotel decisions, please do so.

What has been confirmed already, which is already an important step, that travellers with also 2 doses of vaccine only have to quarantine for 3×24 hours.
